The stance that Western leaders take towards certain dictators seems to be decided by public opinion rather than general principles. Not a bad word can be heard about those dictators as long as a good (read: profitable) relationship can be maintained. When the general public notices something is wrong, the stance turns 180°, like the flip of a coin.

What would happen if we would all stop smoking, drinking and start using the train instead of the car? It's something the government really wants us to do. Or is it?

As a starting point, we used Mauro (the boy who cannot stay cause he doesnt have a permanent residency) We noticed that you only have compassion with someone if you know his/her face. Because there are more situations like Mauro. We wanted to show how easily people can have sympathy with someone if there is a combination between image and the story.. It can be that easy

Jakob Schlötter Roos Groothuizen Rosa Douma
We are biased in our perception of actual events, due to our local media and comments we hear.
We collected news and comments referring to Gaddafi's Death from all over the world and created a collage.
Our goal is to make aware of our limited view on events.

2011-10-06 21:35:42 VISUAL RESPONSES TO NEWS
brought to you weekly off- and on-line by PlayLab
Between 2005 and 2009 ‘Volkskrant OOG’ was a visual commentary and opinion platform for the online edition of De Volkskrant - a major Dutch daily national newspaper. Now YOU with the other student(s) in your group will make an episode for PlayLab OOG.
You are free to use any subject and viewpoint as long as it fits the concept of ‘Oog’ and therefore deals with news, current affairs and the media. Our concern is the overall quality of the work and that it’s able to communicate and interact with the audience through contemporary on-line publishing platforms (e.g. websites, weblogs, mobile apps etc) as well as mobile devices, exploring the new possibilities of audio-visual interaction on e.g. tablets, iPhone, iPad etc.
We are also more interested in the artist’s particular, more personal views on current affairs, than in general statements about ‘all news’.
A final version of the piece should be uploaded one day before presentation (i.e at the latest 23.00 o’clock on the Thursday before PlayLab).
